An internship at Klook, while short, can be an enriching journey that paves the way for a thriving career in the travel and tech industry.

We caught up with our interns, who are all coincidentally Gen-Zers, to understand their roles, and how they practiced our PATH (Push boundaries, Ask for and give feedback, Take ownership, and Help each other) core beliefs here.

They don't just provide support; they get to drive initiatives and see them through to the end.

But why take our word for it? Let's hear from them instead!

As a student interning at a bigger company like Klook for the first time, there was a learning curve when I started. I was a bit shy to ask questions in the beginning, but with how approachable my supervisors were, I was able to open up bit by bit. From there, I was able to learn about my role and tasks quickly and improve the quality of my work. When I receive comments about my output now, I see it as room for growth - instead of just making a mistake.  When I receive comments about my output now, I see it as an opportunity for growth, rather than a mistake made.

I found that taking initiative is important as well since most assignments have room for personal input. In these, having self-initiative is great because you can see how your ideas translate into the final thing! I appreciate how my supervisors ask about my thoughts on our projects, and if there are things I’d like to learn more about. I feel that the environment is supportive in that way, and makes me feel involved in whatever we do.

Meet Andrew, Sherry and Gary, Planning & Operations Interns from Taipei

Our Taipei-based Planning & Operations team had fun testing out their Christmas filter on Google Meet - our virtual communications tool!

Andrew Pan

From day one, I was involved in AI tagging—using #GenAI to generate tagging prompts for customer review categorization. Simultaneously, I took on the Inventory Projection initiative, in which I forecasted the volume of future bookings based on insights into past bookings. Over time, I became adept at updating progress, setting expectations, and making necessary adjustments through communication with various stakeholders. I was able to conduct in-depth research into GenAI and propose actionable solutions.

Sherry Chang

We screened reviews and categorized them by priority levels. Through our manager Oscar's coaching, I learned how to determine what needs immediate attention and what can be deprioritized. He often checked in with us on the projects we wanted to explore. For issues we discovered, we took ownership of them by escalating them to relevant teams, providing proof points so they could prioritize resolution of these issues.

Gary Liu

Among us interns, we collaborated on several projects. For instance, once Andrew and Sherry completed their parts, I would take on the remainder and bring the project to completion. As part of the Planning & Operations team, we communicated with the local Business Development team and sent emails to merchants about penalty descriptions. I learned how to write effectively on the job, thanks to my manager's feedback and support.

Meet Jia Wen Low, Partnership Intern from Singapore

In my first two months, I focused on learning the ropes and then took on my first project with a major partner. Initially, I felt lost and unsure, but my team stood beside me and provided a lot of guidance. During weekly check-ins, I could easily bounce ideas off them, and they always left the door open for me to clarify any doubts.

One of the initiatives I took charge of was sourcing goodie bags for Klook Travel Fest 2023. I managed the entire execution, with the support of my team, starting with finding partners suitable for our 'support local' theme. Through pitching ideas via emails or face-to-face, I honed my negotiation skills, enabling partners to buy into mutually beneficial solutions for a win-win situation. I couldn't have experienced all of this without encouragement from my supportive manager-cum-life-coach and teammates.

The saying 'Seek discomfort: Life's greatest lessons, moments and deepest connections exist outside of your comfort zone' resonates with me. For me, this meant saying yes to a netball game a colleague invited me to after barely knowing him for two minutes. That after-work sports session allowed me to connect with other Klookers from various teams and learn a lot more than I would have otherwise.
