Position Overview 

Railways in Japan span across a lengthy network of 27,000 kms and serve close to 10 billion passengers a year. The passenger services of JR and other private operators offer a convenient and economical option for travellers to not only get around, but also sightsee and immerse themselves into the local culture and ways of life throughout their entire train journeys. In 2019, Japan served 31 million visitors from abroad, and this should show strong sign of recovery in 2022 from the pandemic. 

The Business Development Associate Director / Senior Manager will be instrumental in unlocking potential partners in the railways space and taking our railway product portfolio to the next level in preparation for the exciting era ahead.  

What you’ll do?

  • Report to General Manager, Japan to manage existing key accounts and explore new strategic partnerships, and establish Klook’s profile as the industry leader for distribution and marketing of Japan railway products

  • Also, work closely with internal stakeholders in other countries, namely Planning, Analytics, Operation, Tech teams.

  • Represent Klook in external meetings and conferences

  • Conduct market research and align merchant acquisition priorities with internal stakeholders, and negotiate with partners for the most competitive costs

  • Negotiate merchant marketing funds and work with our Marketing Team to drive tactical supplier-led campaigns as well as to develop long-term product mix strategies

  • Assist the Rail Vertical Team with initiatives to raise supply competitiveness and drive product performance metrics such as conversions, inventory availability, cancellation privilege, instant confirmation etc

  • Be the key contact point and advocate for Japan railway products for cross-function communications and projects

  • Possibility to be a Leader of the JP Mobility team (2-3 HC)

What you’ll need?

  • 10+ years in business development, sales, or account management in industries like travel, e-commerce, or tech startups

  • Knowledge, working experiences within Railway industry would be appreciated

  • Experience in managing transportation products and existing network with the Japan railway industry are appreciated

  • Possess an analytical mindset in addition to being a business wizard

  • Track record of successfully driving cross departmental projects is preferred

  • Fluent in spoken and written Japanese, English is preferred

  • People Manager experience would be preferred

  • A start-up attitude – highly collaborative with an entrepreneurial, roll-up-your sleeves attitude that’s not afraid to work independently when required

  • Globally-minded and comfortable working with people from different cultural backgrounds and across different time zones

  • Bachelor's degree or above
